On June 20. 2003, Gerhard Ulrich, 59 year old Chairman of the association "Appel-au-Peuple", set his own home on fire in Saint Prex, Vaud, Switzerland, before he turned himself in to the cantonal police in Morges.

At all times, people have intentionally destroyed their own goods or burnt their own crops in order to deprive the robbers or bandits who wanted to seize them.

In the face of the sharks and the vultures, Gerhard Ulrich chose to do the same. This method is neither new nor obsolete. It is simply a - rather courageous - means to deprive the predators of their loot.

The G. Ulrich support committee confirms herewith it s support to this exceptional personality who won the general esteem through his pluck, his boundless generosity, his commitment, his readiness and his deep feeling towards the victims of the Swiss judiciary's dysfunction.

Article 34 of the Swiss Penal Code: State of emergency

The deed committed by a person in order to protect his good, namely his life, physical integrity, freedom, honor or assets from an immediate danger which could not  be otherwise avoided remains unpunished, if the danger did not proceed from the person himself and if under the circumstances it could not be expected from the person to release the menaced good. If the danger proceeded from the person, or if the circumstances allowed the release of the menaced good,  the judge shall reduce the sentence according to his free appreciation.
